The Jan Modelski Community Orchestras

 

We are an exciting and friendly amateur community orchestra based in Chester and currently hold three different rehearsal sessions at the Village Hall in Great Barrow, on Saturday mornings. 

You are very welcome to come and watch and listen, or better still, bring your instrument and join in.

Session 1

The Jan Modelski Community Beginning Orchestra (JMCBO) 

Conducted by Inness Hallam and Hannah Rose Lindley

Saturday 9am - 10.15am (this is held in a room just off the main hall)

  This is a one hour session and is aimed at players that have little or no experience of playing with other musicians.

With carefully arranged classic and modern music we will be able to concentrate on the skills needed to…

• Learn how to work with a conductor.
• Learn how to play with other musicians.
• An appreciation of orchestral playing and instruments.
• Learn orchestral pieces to play at our annual concert.
• Build confidence and skills to move to the next level

Any level of playing or instrument is welcome, although an ability to read music at a basic level is required

 

Session 2

The Jan Modelski Community Intermediate Orchestra (JMCIO)

Conducted by Jan Modelski.

Saturday 9am - 10.15am (this will run concurrently with session 1, but will be in the main hall)

  This is a one hour session, and is aimed at musicians that have some experience of playing in an orchestra setting and want to the opportunity to gain more confidence. Whenever possible, we will try to seat you next to a more experienced player. Typical members would be:

· Younger players – basic music reading needed.

· New players/late learners – basic music reading needed.

· Returning players – musicians that may have learnt at school but haven’t played for some time.

· Experienced players wishing to help less experienced ones.

· Musicians learning a second instrument.

 Although the start time is 9am the orchestra should be seated and ready to play at 9.10am and continues until 10.15am.

There is a subscription fee for the JMCIO members of £2 payable at each session attended or you may pay by standing order. 

 

Session 3

The Jan Modelski Community Orchestra (JMCO)

Conducted by Jan Modelski

Saturday 10.30am - 1.45pm (in the main hall)

This is a full orchestra session. Again, the aim is to be as inclusive as possible to all players and to continually improve as an orchestra. We play everything from popular standards and film music to the classics.

Although there are players in the advanced orchestra have played with us for a number of years, we are constantly being joined by new members.

The orchestra should be seated and ready to play by 10.45am and may, on occasions, continue a little after 1.45pm depending on concerts.

There is a subscription fee for the members of the JMCO of £4 payable each at session attended or you may pay by standing order.

Please note: If you attend both orchestra sessions the fee will be £4 only.
