About Us

The Jan Modelski Community Orchestra was founded in 2001 to enable musicians of all ages and abilities to participate in a performing orchestra. The atmosphere is friendly, informal and geared towards encouraging the best performances from its members and aiding their musical development. An annual concert is held in July and a Christmas concert in December. The orchestra occasionally performs away from its base in Great Barrow Chester and are free to give concerts for charity. We are a not for profit Community Based Orchestra.

We pride ourselves in being an “Open” admission orchestra. This means that unlike other orchestras, we do not restrict our members admission by capability, instrument or age. We are happy for anyone to join with any instrument and play in a relaxed and fun environment. In fact, joining in is what the orchestra is all about. We also commit to our members that we will play at least one full concert per year in addition to playing at charitable events.

The orchestra is led and conducted by our Director of Music, Jan Modelski. Jan is an established Music Teacher and performs regularly on the live music scene.
